Seasonal Depression

Today our watercooler question of the day had to do with seasonal depression.  I don’t know about you, but I hate winter and January usually leaves me with little to look forward to.  The holidays are over, you’re stuck inside and any vacation is months away.

But this year has been different.  I really haven’t let the cold weather get me down.  It could be that my husband and I are expecting our first child, but I actually think it’s because we’ve been so busy.  Every weekend it seems we have plans.  I’m learning January is a great month to catch up with old friends, and dinner is a perfect way to do that.  We’ve also had our share of birthday parties and showers to attend.  And when we do get a break, I’m finding it’s a perfect time to cuddle up in bed or by the fire with a good book.

So I think I’ve finally figured it out.. the key to fighting seasonal depression is to keep busy!  Before I know it’ll be spring and time to welcome our little one to the world.

How are you fighting seasonal depression?  Send us your thoughts…

  1. The problem is I don’t WANT to do anything. It is an effort for me to do the normal things much less anything else. I feel drained all the time.

  2. I get SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) every year from Fall till Spring. This is more common than people realize. This year I tried somethiing new at the suggestion of my doctor. I take 1000 units of Vitamin D3 everyday. When it really gets bad I take 2000 units. Something about the lack of sunshine/daylight really does effect our affect. Full spectrum lights are another tool I use. I do know I could sleep more, but the Vit. D helped with the depression. I am always grateful for the day after the first day of winter because every day gets longer.
